What is Argo Project?
Argo program is a global array of free-drifting profiling floats designed to measure the temperature and salinity of the upper 2000 m of the ocean.
The data collected by this project will provide continuous global monitoring of the temperature, salinity, and velocity of the upper ocean. All the data are being relayed and made publicly available within hours after collection.

Argo Brazil
The project "Monitoring the Variability of Regional Heat transport in the surface layer of the South Atlantic ocean between Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and Ilha de Trindade (ES)" MOVAR is a Brazilian pilot-project, in collaboration with NOAA. During the development of the Brazilian cruise, 372 miles off the coast of Brazil, 04 (four) Argo float deployments were carried out aboard Brazilian Navy Hydrographic Vessel SIRIUS.
With the launching of these 04 (four) floats, Brazil became the 21st nation among IOC Member States to take part in Argo.
The leadership of these activities in Brazil relies at the Executive Committee for GOOS, coordinated by the Directorate of Hydrography and Navigation, charged with the facilitation of implementation of ocean observations programs, with institutions from Argentina and Uruguay.
The SOLO floats, manufactured at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) were deployed at the following locations:
- 19°26' S - 24°30' W;
- 19°59' S - 27°00' W;
- 21°01' S - 32°00' W;
- 21°50' S - 36°00' W.
